Recently made popular by such programmes as Strickly Come Dancing and Dancing With The Stars, Lindy Hop is a social partner dance which originated in the period 1800-1945 and has many steps taken from African American dance and the Charleston dance of the 1920's. Jitterbug, East Coast swing, Rock n Roll jive, LeRoc and Modern Jive all evolved from Lindy Hop, the original jive dance. It saw a huge revival in the early 1980's and now has a following world wide with many classes up and down the country. Until recently, the South West, traditionally a modern jive strong hold, was not well served by Lindy Hop teachers south of Bristol but then a group of friends in Exeter started getting workshops organised with top teachers Graeme & Ann, also known as Hoppin' Mad. This led to classes in Plymouth, Exeter, Tiverton and now Yeovil. Chris Pamplin was one of the students at those workshops.
Chris Pamplin and his partner Brenda will take you through all the steps you need to start dancing, you can join any time through the term as steps will be rotated and repeated, so that your muscles can remember them. You don't need a partner as you rotate partners while learning. Men lead the dance and ladies follow. Dancing is harder for men as they have to lead and think about what to do next, so don't give up after a few lessons, it takes time to get those moves to come as second nature. You may have already done other dance classes, modern jive or salsa, maybe ballroom or line dancing, you may be totally new to dance, all are welcome. You don't have to wear old fasioned clothes to learn Lindy, during classes comfortable clothing and a flat pair of shoes with not too much grip are ideal. As you progress you may wish to invest in dance shoes.

Our aim is to provide a club atmosphere and fun dance lessons, we are not in it to make money. Rather we would like to see a local following of the dance develop over the coming months. See you on the dance floor!

Each Class will be a rotation of 4 of the following moves and styling.
